NEWTZ IN THE BOOTZ

NEWTZ IN THE BOOTZ, mixed media sculpture
"Newtz in the Bootz" was created for the "Really Big Shoe Show!" at the Neville Public Museum in Green Bay, WI.  It is a 3-D piece that is made from various materials all stemming from an old boot. The characters come up from the boot and form a heart shape.  There is an arrow going through both their bodies.  Cupid's arrow of Love gone astray.  Meanings of some of the symbolism: There is a chain wrapped around them signifying the bonds of their own making; playing cards to represent "dealing with what life deals you"; stones of different sizes to show the rocky places within a relationship; and a stuffed heart doll painted with a terrible face to represent someone trying to come between them. One side shows two "happy" newts in love, and the other side shows them "unhappy" as they have found themselves facing life's many challenges.  However, they remain together for they realize that everyone has a path and a journey which holds many challenges and they will overcome all with their love.
